Why Choose MOW?

Choose MOW

Why choose MOW? Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that has been operating on the North Shore for close to 40 years. Our meals are prepared by chefs who have your nutritional needs in mind. The food is prepared by a local caterer using only fresh ingredients. It is made by a local company and transported to St. David’s Church in West Vancouver and the North Lonsdale United Church in North Vancouver for packaging. From the churches the meals are delivered to the clients in thermal carriers and arrive hot and ready to eat.

Each meal includes soup and crackers, an entree (meat, fish or poultry), vegetables, a starch (rice, potatoes or pasta) and dessert.

Meals are delivered between 11:30 and 1:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Many clients order extra meals so that they can heat them up the next day.

“I believe that the greatest gift you can give your family and the world is a healthy you.”

Joyce Meyer

“I have used Meals on Wheels for over a year and have found their service excellent.”

— Chuck S.

Meals on Wheels offers a number of choices to accommodate different diets or preferences. Each day there are two main selections and a fish option. Meals can also be adjusted for individuals requiring a reduced sugar option.

Peace of Mind

Not only do you get fabulous meals that are hot, nutritious and delicious but you get peace of mind, knowing that our drivers will be there 3 days a week to say hello and, if you wish, stay for a short visit and chat. If you are a loved one of our clients you can be assured that we will be checking on their well-being every time we drop off meal.

“I was delivering a meal to an elderly client and when I arrived I noticed that she was very pale, shaky and unsteady on her feet. As I unpacked her meal I asked her how she was. She said she didn’t feel well. I suggested she call her daughter, who lived close by and I sat with her until her daughter arrived.”

— Lesley Blok (volunteer driver)

Each meal is $8.50, including delivery.  We are aware that many of our clients live on fixed incomes and we are committed to keeping our meal prices to a minimum. None of the fee is used for administration costs.

Payment for the meals is arranged with the coordinator when you apply for the service. Usually, payments are made monthly on receipt of billing. Veterans may be eligible for subsidies from DVA. We accept Visa and MasterCard. Payment is also accepted by cheque or Internet Transfers.
